PSS (Porcine Stress Syndrome) is an inheritable, recessive genetic disorder in pigs. When slaughtered, PSS pigs often produce carcasses that have pale, soft, and exudative (PSE) pork. Test for PSS (HAL-1843) was developed in Canada and patented in 1993 (CA2079702 - antibody test, CA2064091 - DNA test), which accurately identifies a genetic mutation in pigs that causes PSS, also known as Porcine Malignant Hyperthermia. VITA-TECH Inc. is proud to be one of the licensed laboratories worldwide to conduct the HAL-1843 test.
PSS test is run on a daily basis in the DNA diagnostic division.
The average turnaround time is 3-5 working days after specimen accessioning.
