Spider Lamb Syndrome and Scrapie Resistance Tests Order Now
Manage your flock with confidence!

Using the University-developed Spider Gene Test, you can identify and eliminate the Spider Gene from your flock. Detect rams and ewes that carry the Spider-causing mutation and avoid making costly mating decisions.

DNA testing for Scrapie Resistance is growing every year as producers realize the importance and peace of mind associated with raising Scrapie Resistant sheep. Testing helps ensure that your flock will not be considered a source flock for Scrapie and will be less likely to become infected with Scrapie if exposed. Animals that have the RR or QR genotype at codon 171 have been shown to be resistant to Scrapie infection while only animals with the AA genotype at codon 136 have been shown to be resistant to Scrapie infection. With interest in codon 136 increasing in the United States, it is often recommended that QR animals be tested to ensure that they are also resistant at codon 136.

For more information about genotyping your flock for Scrapie Resistance at both codon 171 and codon 136, please call us toll free at 1-877-766-3446.

DNA testing is simple - just collect blood by following kit instructions or calling a licensed veterinarian. Accuracy of both tests is 99 percent. Formal certificates for each DNA-tested animal are available upon request.

Results are available within 5 business days and reported only to the customer.
